TELEMEDICINE AND
TELEHEALTH AT Dr.
MEEROFF'S OFFICE
Hi, friends, this is
Dr. Meeroff with important news!
We have introduced TELEMEDICINE
AND TELEHEALTH into our practice with great success!!
Telemedicine is the
practice of medicine using technology to deliver medical care at its best. A
physician in one location uses a telecommunication tool to deliver care to a
patient at a distant site.
Telehealth refers
broadly to the use of electronic technologies and services to provide care and
services at-a-distance. That is consultations, writing and sending
prescriptions to pharmacies, ordering laboratory and imaging tests, delivering
medical products such as vitamins and nutritional supplements, etc.
All medical societies
and medical government control agencies strongly support the use of
telemedicine as an appropriate and efficient means of improving health if
conducted within the context of appropriate standards of care.
How telemedicine
works? It is very simple. It makes possible for physicians to treat patients
whenever needed and wherever the patient is, by using a computer or a smartphone.
Telemedicine is
very useful for:
·
-Diagnose
medical problems such as headaches, sore throat, back pain, digestive troubles,
etc.
·
-Inquiry
about various medical issues for home treatments
·
-Post-treatment
check-ins or follow up for chronic care
·
-Faster
refill of short-term medical prescriptions
·
-Consult
during holidays, weekends, late-night or any other situation when face to face
regular medical care is not possible
·
-Consult
when the patient is unable to leave the house due to sickness, the danger of
contamination (COIVID-19), or bad weather conditions.
Making use of
telemedicine services is very easy. It uses an online account or a toll-free
phone number. Patients request a visit, submitting basic information on their
condition, and then the physician schedules the time for the consultation.
Telemedicine is a wonderful technology since it allows enhanced communication
between the patient and the office at any time!!
The advantages of telemedicine
are as follows:
·
Telemedicine increases access to care
·
Telemedicine improves the quality of care
delivery
·
Telemedicine reduces healthcare costs
·
Telemedicine enhances traditional face-to-face
medicine
·
Telemedicine improves patient engagement and
satisfaction
·
Telemedicine improves provider satisfaction
Telemedicine
increases access to care
Distance and
travel time between patients and medical offices can limit access to care.
Fortunately, telemedicine can overcome geographic barriers to healthcare,
especially for specialized providers.
Telemedicine
improves the quality of care delivery
Telemedicine can
improve the quality of care for patients with both medical and mental health
conditions. A recent study showed that with telemedicine, patients had:
- 38%
fewer hospital admissions
- 31%
fewer hospital re-admissions
- 63%
more likely to spend fewer days in the hospital
- Were
more engaged in their healthcare
Telemedicine
reduces healthcare costs
Telemedicine can
increase the efficiency of care delivery, reduce expenses of caring for
patients or transporting to another location, and can even keep patients out of
the hospital. One study showed that telemedicine care had 20 percent savings
over inpatient care costs.
Telemedicine
enhances traditional face-to-face Medicine
A strong doctor-patient relationship is the
foundation for high-quality patient care and reducing health care costs.
Telemedicine support, not replace traditional care delivery. With telemedicine,
doctors can continue caring for patients using face to face visits while still
providing the flexibility and convenience of seeing patients remotely for
follow up visits, check-ups, and education when appropriate or necessary.
Telemedicine improves patient
engagement and satisfaction
Telemedicine makes it easier and more convenient
for patients to stay healthy and involved in their health care. Patients love
the convenience, flexibility, and real-time care with their doctors and nurses.
Telemedicine improves provider efficiency
and satisfaction
Being a medical doctor today can be challenging and
stressful at times. Telemedicine can improve job satisfaction by making it
easier to meet with patients.
Sincerely,
J.C. Meeroff, MD, PhD
