FROM THE MEEROFF TEAM TO OUR PATIENTS AND FRIENDS

LESSONS FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The 2019 Coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing world epidemic of a SARS-CO2 virus known as COVID-19.

The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Province of Hubei in Central China in November 17, 2019 and it is since 3/11/2020 a WORLD PANDEMIC. It expanded rapidly due to the non-stop travel and tourism characteristic of our times. The virus is very contagious and it is affecting the entire world population in circumstances unknown to humanity.

THE CONTEMPORARY PRAGMATIC MODEL OF HEALTH AND DISEASE

A PRAGMATIC MODEL OF HEALTH AND DISEASE UNDER THE INTEGRATIVE PARADIGM

INTRODUCTION

Life and living are very complicated issues for which we do not have straightforward answers. We know that modern Homo Sapiens have consciousness and with consciousness come uncertainties and anxieties originated by the fact that we still don’t know the purpose and meaning of life (Lanza 2016). We also recognize that the pattern of diseases changes from generation to generation: some diseases disappear while new ones emerge and others occur in a different manner. In general terms, our current situation is that we suffer more from slow accumulation of damage rather than from acute attacks of strong external agents (Sapolsky 1994). We also recognize that when confronting a disease, the body has mechanisms to heal itself and to return to “normality”. This alleged spontaneous healing is assumed to be synchronized via the subconscious mind, while the conscious mind seems to interfere with self-healing mechanisms (Weil 2000).

THE BAD EFFECT OF NOISE POLUTION

THE BAD EFFECT OF NOISE POLUTION TO HUMAN HEALTH

Noise is defined as unwanted sound. The potential health effects of noise pollution are numerous, pervasive, persistent, and medically and socially significant.
Noise produces direct and cumulative adverse effects that impair health and that degrade residential, social, working, and learning environments with corresponding real (economic) and intangible (well-being) losses.  It interferes with sleep, concentration, learning, communication, and recreation.

Attending a sports event is now a terrifying nightmare. We hope that people go to a spectator sport event to be entertained by the sport and not to suffer the tyranny of obnoxious atmospheric venue noise. Hopefully people want to experience a good spectacle of sports and not being tortured by loud, cacophonic incessant and unnecessary noise. Furthermore, that noise, as proven by the incidents during the Men's FIFA World Cup played a few years ago in South Africa, interferes with the game itself.

WELLNESS AND UNWELLNESS

Wellness and unwellness in a capsule

INTRODUCTION

Disease (unwellness) represents a deviation from the biological, psychological, social and spiritual dynamic balance that characterized health (wellness). Disease is a multi factorial process that occurs when the individual is incapable of coping with imposed demands. Those demands (stressors) can be physical such as excessive exposure to noise; chemical such as getting infected with toxins released by invasive bacteria; psychological such as anxiety caused by learning new skills and/or social such as poor integration to a new community.
